IGNACIO
DURÁN SANZ

SITE

It may come as a surprise on a “professional” page that I start with a picture of my family, but who I am and who I want to be cannot be conceived without it. My wife and life partner is an inspiration to me. Intelligent, educated and with a capacity for work and dedication to everything she undertakes that overwhelms me on many occasions. It moves me to be more detailed, more professional, more caring and correct. Seeing, too, how she dedicates her life and every last ounce of energy to our children and family teaches me the path I must follow.

My children are, without a doubt, my motivation to make a better world around them. They are capable of dissipating, with a single smile, any cloud in my mood. I couldn’t have been luckier with my family and I couldn’t help but share it with whoever you are reading these lines. No doubt having introduced you to Mayte, Nachete and Pablo will help you get to know me better.

ABOUT ME

Knowing my family, maybe it would be good to tell you something about me. My name is Ignacio Durán Sanz, I have been in love with the beaches of Cádiz since I was a little boy and I am 49 years old.

I will leave you a link to my resume in a button below these lines so you can have a quick look at my career over the years. If you continue reading this page I will expand some details about my career that may be of interest to you and you can see a brief summary as a portfolio of some of the work I have done.

CAREER

PROFESSIONAL

I have always appreciated order in composition. From a drawing to a piece of music, from a newspaper cover to the golden ratio in plants or flowers. With hindsight it is logical that my career was oriented towards composition (design) and order (project management) even before the birth of the Internet and the emergence of the UX/UI side or being old enough and experienced enough to manage projects.

This is why I decided to start my studies in Image and Sound where I learned about composition, photography, video production, audio editing and instead of becoming a DJ or a cameraman in a production company I decided to start “playing” with photo editing in a 2.5 version of Photoshop in 1992.

Then came the internet and everything exploded. It caught me in the perfect place and at the perfect time and I decided to dedicate myself to it body and soul. I designed html projects with tables and its famous transparent pixel, I jumped to Flash when it was still from Macromedia (later Adobe bought it) and we created our first “CMS” which were nothing more than control panels that allowed editing text and images on the webs, Flash died for being unsafe and we returned to html, now with layers (divs) and we perfected our “CMS” until PHPNuke arrived and after that PostNuke and another long list of opensource CMS until the current reign of WordPress, with which I have made this page you are reading.

UX/UI

In the last 10 years the specialization of interface design as well as the techniques for its conceptualization and development have evolved more than any other branch of design. The application of Lean methods to UX/UI management has broken down the walls between the different taifa´s kingdoms and has involved all stakeholders in the optimal outcome of the interfaces. The user experience is now as important as the correct functionality of the application. It is a road with no way back. Since the beginning of my career I have been working, without knowing it at the time, with Lean methodologies, design studies (design sprints), layouts, postIt on walls, style guides, minimum viable products…

I have worked with advanced UX research technologies such as those provided by the company Tobii (eyetrack) whose technology I used for several years. I have conducted heuristic evaluations, user interviews and focus groups, multivariate tests, field research, card sorting, sometimes more formally and sometimes more informally.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

I have been managing projects of different types for more than 20 years. I have managed web projects, eCommerce, intranets, management platforms, apps. I have managed projects and project groups (programs). I am currently pursuing the PMP® certification to standardize the knowledge used all these years. I have managed stakeholders, schedules, costs, quality, communications, risks…

I am an assertive person, with people skills, optimistic and positive, fluent in relationships and conflict management, respectful, courteous. I know how to delegate and be in continuous learning. I apply critical and analytical thinking when making decisions and have managed teams of up to forty people.

PROJECT

PORTFOLIO

In this section you will be able to see a small sample of some of the projects carried out during the last years. These are a small selection of projects that have left me with fond memories of their realization. Some are still published and some are not. Many of those still published have modifications made by the client himself and/or have modified the usability of the site, I trust in your benevolence in these cases.

Although I have worked in recent years in both consulting projects, UX/UI, web design, eCommerce and Project Management, the selection I have made is mostly of web projects and not even all the most important clients are there because in some cases there was nothing visual, but UX/UI reports or own Management of their projects. If you have any questions, I will be happy to provide you with more information.
